Kazan State Medical University (KSMU) stands at the forefront of Russia's leading scientific schools and research initiatives. According to an independent rating by the administrative agency "RateOR," only three Kazan universities rank among the top fifty Russian universities for scientific achievements, with KSMU securing the second spot after Kazan State University. Among Russia's best medical universities, KSMU ranks third, following the Moscow Medical Academy named after I.M. Sechenov and the Russian State Medical University.

KSMU offers training for highly qualified specialists across 40 PhD specialties and 5 doctoral specialties. The university has two doctoral Academic Councils in seven specialties and plans to establish a third Council for two more specialties.

The university has established centers for science and innovation, including the Research and Education Center "Molecular and Cellular Medicine," which received a federal grant for its innovative program. Additionally, KSMU is the only university in Russia with a "Stem Cell Bank."

Every year, KSMU faculty members conduct cutting-edge scientific research and receive numerous grants from the Russian Foundation for Fundamental Research, the Russian Humanitarian Scientific Foundation, and various national and international organizations. KSMU also organizes and hosts dozens of international, national, and regional conferences, summer schools for young researchers, and fellows on contemporary scientific issues.

KSMU is the founder of two journals in which the Higher Attestation Commission recommends publishing scientific research results. A vast majority of KSMU professors serve on the editorial boards of both Russian and international scientific and practical journals.
